A new desalination plant fabricated in Catalonia supplies the island of San Andrés in Colombia.

The President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos inaugurated the public works to supply drinking water to the residents of the towns of La Loma, San Luis and El Cove, situated on the island of San Andrés, Colombia.

The project consists in desalinating seawater to obtain drinking water in sufficient quantity and quality to provide a flow of 25L/sec. to the afore-mentioned towns. This is achieved in the form of a seawater desalination plant comprising the following treatments:

  • Flint filtration.
  • Chemical dosings for water conditioning via membranes.
  • High pressure pump.
  • Micro-filtration.
  • Reverse osmosis rack.
  • CIP cleaning system.
  • Post-treatment to condition the water for drinking.
  • Automation and control.

The Group Corporación de Organizaciones y Representaciones, S.A. (CORSA), with headquarters in Barcelona, Spain, was awarded the contract to develop the project by means of its water engineering department, which designed, built and commissioned the seawater desalination plant.
